For the sake of accuracy, Mnemba is a reef and not an atoll, as it is sometimes referred to as Mnemba Atoll in many publications and maps. Mnemba is renowned for the excellent clarity of its waters (for this region of the Indian Ocean) and for the unusual proliferation and diversity of its corals and tropical marine life, where you may spot different species of fish during your freediving sessions.

Some of the species you can see on Mnemba Reef include angelfish, blue-spotted stingrays, black snappers, groupers, redtoothed tridents, flounders, octopuses, leaffishes, scorpionfishes, stonefish, frogfish and many trevallies.

Mnemba Island is one of the best places in Africa for underwater adventures. Mnemba Atoll – Located on the northeast coast of the island of Zanzibar. Tourists flock here to combine relaxation with scuba diving or snorkeling on the incredibly colorful and diverse reefs that surround the island. This atoll offers easy diving down to around 20 meters deep and lots of coral, you may also spot dolphins and sea turtles due to the depth of the water in this area.
